KJ Spio, Konshens and Harmonize collaborate on new song ‘Messi’

Ghanaian music impresario KJ Spio taps Tanzanian Bongo sensation Harmonize and Jamaican dancehall legend Konshens for his latest single Messi, a genre-bending track set to ignite dancefloors across Africa and beyond. Stream it here: Messi.

Messi delivers a powerful fusion of Afrobeats, dancehall, and Amapiano, opening with a catchy percussive groove crafted by Grammy-winning Jamaican producer IzyBeats (known for work with Jorja Smith, Rema, Koffee, Alicia Keys). Harmonize and Konshens take centre stage with smooth, infectious vocals turning this into a party anthem with depth.
Its lyrics about staying focused on your own path and avoiding drama add a thoughtful layer to the high-energy beat.
The official music video, directed by Lux London (who’s worked with Tems, Central Cee, Ice Spice) and shot in Toronto, captures the spirit of the song. What starts as a casual poker game quickly becomes a vibrant house party highlighting the chemistry between Spio, Harmonize, and Konshens.
Reflecting on the collaboration, KJ Spio says:
“I am a big fan of Konshens, and after working with Harmonize before, I knew that together we could create magic. So, I reached out, and the rest is history.”
On working together, Harmonize adds:
“This track is a fusion of the trending music genres at their best. Music is universal, transcending genres, borders and continents… It was a very seamless process. Expect loads of new music vibes from me and an upcoming joint project … Harmo to the world!”
And Konshens shares:
“Working with Harmonize and KJ Spio was effortless… I hope our fans get to enjoy the song and dance away as we come to the close of 2024. I’ve been working on a solo project that is set to drop next year.”
This release builds on KJ Spio’s rising momentum, following successful projects with Sarkodie, Ambré, Oxlade, Libianca, and Harmonize. His music has gained recognition from platforms like COLORS, Ones to Watch, and Ministry of Sound. Spio is also working with emerging African talent including Lasmid, Vasa, and Kojo Blak solidifying his reputation as a culturepreneur who breaks boundaries and blends global sounds.
