I Once Borrowed To Impress People Instead Of Building Real Assets – Timini
Actor Timini Egbuson says he once borrowed money to fund a lifestyle he couldn’t afford and now regrets spending on flashy items instead of building real assets.
Speaking on a recent episode of the MENtality podcast hosted by Ebuka Obi-Uchendu and Banky Wellington, the actor admitted to going overboard with luxury spending, including amassing a collection of about 150 perfumes.
“There will always be a newer watch, a newer car,” he said. “The money I spent on perfumes could have been used to buy land instead.”
While he clarified that he’s not against owning nice things, Timini said the bigger question is why people buy them. “I’m not trying to talk down on having a nice car or watch. But are you doing it for yourself or because of peer pressure? Are you genuinely happy with it? And without it, would you still be happy?” he asked.
The “Blood Sisters” star also spoke about surviving lean periods, noting that his happiness is no longer tied to material things. “There are times when I have been broke, but my energy is always the same because I found a way to be happy with whatever I have,” he said.
Reflecting on his early career, Timini admitted he once lived a “fake life” to impress others.
“I used to be that guy who lived a fake life and borrowed to impress people. But not anymore,” he said.
His honesty has since sparked conversations online, with many fans relating to the pressure of keeping up appearances on social media, while others applauded him for speaking openly about financial maturity.
