Tobe Nwigwe Bridges Houston and Nigeria on “Perfection”
Grammy-nominated artist and filmmaker Tobe Nwigwe has released “Perfection,” featuring Nigerian music icon Flavour, soul singer C.S. Armstrong, and producer Tierce “Kizzo.” The track is the second release from Nwigwe’s forthcoming album, The Bridge, due August 21 via Human Re Sources.
Following “All or Nothing” with Labrinth, “Perfection” examines the idea of finding value in people despite their flaws. The song presents perfection not as flawlessness, but as the ability to recognize someone’s best qualities in the context of their full humanity.
The track links the musical traditions of Houston and Nigeria, two places central to Nwigwe’s identity. Flavour brings a highlife influence, while C.S. Armstrong adds soul-driven vocals and Kizzo contributes to the production. Nwigwe’s lyricism connects those elements, resulting in a record shaped by shared heritage and cross-cultural collaboration.
“Perfection isn’t the absence of flaws,” Nwigwe says. “The world has never been perfect, and neither have we. But real love has a way of making imperfect moments feel complete. The people who loved me before I had anything provided tools for my discovery of purpose. This song is my way of honoring them.”
The single’s artwork reflects the same connection. It features Nwigwe’s mother, a native Nigerian woman, wearing an eight-piece gold grill on both her upper and lower teeth. The image places Nigerian identity alongside a familiar symbol of Houston culture, acknowledging the generations, communities, and experiences that inform Nwigwe’s work.
