Lodù Cements Her Place Among Afro-Soul’s Standout Voices with Debut EP “Wine & Honey”

Nigerian Afro-Soul singer, songwriter, and producer Lodù reaches a defining milestone in her artistic journey with the release of her debut EP, Wine & Honey.

Blending Afro-Soul and Afro-Fusion, the seven-track project presents her most expansive and cohesive body of work to date, offering a deeply intentional exploration of love, identity, and the enduring beauty of human connection.

Drawing inspiration from the poetry of the Song of Solomon, Wine & Honey EP, unfolds as a love story told from the perspective of a bride to her beloved. Through seven carefully crafted records, Lodù explores a romance likened to the intoxicating richness of wine and the gentle sweetness of honey, capturing the passion, vulnerability, devotion, and unwavering commitment that define enduring love. Rather than presenting romance as fleeting emotion, the project frames it as something sacred, reciprocal, and worthy of celebration.

“Wine & Honey is my interpretation of love at its purest. I wanted to tell a story that celebrates devotion, tenderness and commitment through the lens of African storytelling. Every song is a different chapter, but together they become one complete love story.” says Lodù.

As her first full-length project, Wine & Honey EP, represents a significant evolution in Lodù’s artistry. While her previous releases introduced listeners to her distinctive blend of Afrocentric influences and soulful storytelling, the EP expands that vision into a complete narrative. Every song contributes to a larger emotional arc, bringing to light an artist who is becoming increasingly confident in both her musical identity and her storytelling.

The project opens with Lolufé, an Afro-Jazz-infused introduction that immediately immerses listeners in the warmth and intimacy of the record. It moves seamlessly into Olówó Orími, a heartfelt celebration of honour, gratitude, and lifelong commitment, before arriving at Moróuntódùn, a nostalgic meditation on discovering a soulmate through Afro-Soul, folk textures, and old-school influences.

The traditional Yoruba interlude Egbe Gengen reinforces themes of marriage, unity, and cultural heritage, while Follow explores the freedom and intentionality of choosing a love that becomes the centre of one’s world. Ìfẹ́mi, featuring DOTTi The Deity, introduces a gentle and contemporary Afro-Soul collaboration that further broadens the project’s sonic palette.

The release also builds on the momentum of Lodù’s growing catalogue. Her breakout single Olówó Orími debuted at No. 32 on the Nigeria Top 50 chart and remained on the chart for several weeks, reflecting a growing connection with audiences and reinforcing her emergence as one of Afro-Soul’s most compelling new voices. Together with singles such as Follow and Moróuntódùn, the EP showcases the artistic progression that has steadily defined her career.

Recorded in her home studio in Yaba, Lagos, Wine & Honey was brought to life through collaborations with producers Phleksibu, Ojurere, and Gentuu Vibe. While the production developed through both in-person and virtual creative sessions, Lodù independently wrote every song on the project, allowing each composition to remain deeply personal and creatively uncompromised.

“Writing the songs on my own gave me the freedom to be completely honest. I could experiment, rewrite, and keep refining every lyric and melody until each song felt exactly the way I imagined it. That process taught me patience and made this project incredibly personal.”

The meticulous craftsmanship behind the EP reflects Lodù’s commitment to artistic excellence. From writing and recording to vocal production, every detail was approached with intention, resulting in songs that balance technical precision with emotional authenticity. That dedication extended beyond the recording process, with nearly a year spent refining the project through production, engineering, and a carefully considered release strategy.

As both a singer and producer, Lodù continues to distinguish herself through complete creative ownership of her work. Her music seamlessly blends Afrocentric sounds, Jazz influences, folk textures, and contemporary production into songs that honour heritage while embracing modern expression. This balance between cultural authenticity and musical innovation has become a defining characteristic of her artistry.

“I hope people walk away believing that love can still be gentle, reciprocal and intentional. If these songs remind someone to cherish love or to believe in it again, then I’ve achieved what I set out to do,” shares Lodù.

With Wine & Honey, Lodù delivers more than a debut EP. She presents a carefully curated artistic statement that celebrates love through the lens of culture, poetry, and lived experience. It is a project rooted in emotional honesty and timeless songwriting, reaffirming her place among the emerging artists shaping the future of Afro-Soul.
