Angélique Kidjo First African Honoured on Hollywood Walk of Fame

Beninois music icon and five-time Grammy Award winner Angélique Kidjo has been announced as part of the Hollywood Walk of Fame Class of 2026, becoming the first African artist in history to be recognised with a star on the famed boulevard.

The news was confirmed during a press conference held by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce at Ovation Hollywood, where the latest list of inductees across film, music, television, live theatre, and sports entertainment was unveiled. Kidjo will receive her star in the Recordings category, joining a class that includes Miley Cyrus, The Clark Sisters, Timothée Chalamet, Demi Moore, Shaquille O’Neal, and Gordon Ramsay.

Kidjo’s multi-decade career has earned her critical acclaim and global recognition. Often cited for her fusion of Afrobeat, funk, reggae, and classical elements, she has consistently championed African music on the world stage. With multiple accolades and international collaborations to her name, her impact extends beyond entertainment to include humanitarian work and cultural advocacy.

Chair of the selection committee and former Warner Bros. Television executive Peter Roth stated, “These talented individuals have made significant contributions to the world of entertainment, and we are thrilled to honour them with this well-deserved recognition.”

While the official unveiling date for Kidjo’s star is yet to be announced, the milestone represents a historic cultural moment for African creatives and the global music community.

The Hollywood Walk of Fame honour places Kidjo alongside a select group of international icons, further cementing her legacy as one of the most influential musicians of her generation.
