It Took 10 Years! Adekunle Gold and Olamide Set To Drop First Song Together “Formation”
Adekunle Gold has confirmed the release of a new single titled Formation, featuring Olamide, scheduled for 9 April. The record marks the first official collaboration between the two artists, more than a decade after their professional relationship began under YBNL.
Olamide signed Adekunle Gold to YBNL in 2014 after discovering his music, a move that led to the release of Gold’s breakout single Sade in 2015. Despite their shared history and continued success within the Nigerian music industry, the pair had not previously released a joint track.
The announcement was accompanied by a styled promotional image and a message from Adekunle Gold reflecting on Olamide’s role in his early career. He referenced the opportunity he received at the start of his journey, including his first international travel and exposure to a wider audience through the label.
According to Adekunle Gold, Formation represents a milestone in their working relationship. The release arrives at a time when both artists have established individual careers, with Olamide maintaining his influence as a label executive and artist, and Adekunle Gold expanding his sound and global reach.
In 2014, he heard one song…and that was enough. He gave me a chance when all I had was a dream and a voice, took me out of the country for the first time in my life.
He helped shape my journey, and for the first time ever, we’ve made something special together.
Formation is more than a song, it’s legacy and brotherhood. A reminder that wherever life takes us, we still share the same roots, the same spirit, and the same love. To everyone who has carried YBNL in their hearts from day one until now, this moment is ours.
YBNL forever.
Formation featuring Olamide arrives April 9. 🧡
All my love,
YBNL Toaster 🦈❤️
The track is expected to draw attention given the long-standing connection between both artists and the absence of a prior collaboration. It also highlights the continued relevance of YBNL’s legacy within the Afrobeats scene.
Formation will be available on all major streaming platforms from 9 April.
