Play Network Studios & Mondjila Studios Join Forces For Epic Pan-African Film, ‘The Skeleton Coast’
In a remarkable collaboration, Play Network Studios from Nigeria and Mondjila Studios from Namibia are embarking on a cinematic adventure with ‘The Skeleton Coast.”
The film’s central philosophy is rooted in authentic storytelling, uniting Africa’s heart with the global stage. Spearheaded by Charles Okpaleke of Play Network Studios and Panashe Daringo of Mondjila Studios, this project embodies Pan-Africanism in the world of cinema.
“The Skeleton Coast” derives its name from Namibia’s hauntingly beautiful coastline, a place known locally as ‘The Land God Made in Anger.’ This region boasts a surreal juxtaposition of over a thousand shipwrecks and untamed natural beauty. The narrative of the film is set against this backdrop, where life’s vibrancy harmonizes with the remnants of death found in the skeletal remains of whales, seals, and unique wildlife.
This audacious project aspires to be the most extensive collaborative film production in Africa. Under the skilled direction of filmmaker Robert O. Peters, the principal photography is underway in Namibia. The production is led by the accomplished team of Rogers Ofime and Arafat Bello-Osagie from Play Network Studios.
“The Skeleton Coast” features a star-studded cast with talent from South Africa, Nigeria, Namibia, Ghana, and beyond. It’s enriched with the international experience of Eric Roberts, a Golden Globe and Academy Award Nominated actor.
The production promises an enticing blend of creativity, cross-continental partnership, investment in African storytelling, and a vibrant depiction of African heritage, all interwoven into a captivating narrative and breathtaking scenery.
