Femi Branch Scores AMVCA Nomination After 35 Years in Nollywood

After 35 years of gracing the screen, legendary actor Femi Branch has earned an Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) nomination—a milestone that solidifies his legacy in Nollywood.

Branch, a powerhouse in both English and Yoruba cinema, has captivated audiences with unforgettable performances in films like Omotara Johnson, Akandun, Out of Luck, Wives on Strike, and now, House of Ga’a, the Yoruba epic that earned him this prestigious nod.

But this victory didn’t come easy. Branch revealed how some doubted his ability to embody Basorun Ga’a, believing he was only suited for English roles. Yet, visionary director Bolanle Austen-Peters saw his potential, stood her ground, and gave him the chance to prove his critics wrong. And he did—spectacularly.

His electrifying performance in House of Ga’a not only silenced sceptics but also helped the film top Netflix charts for weeks. Now, this well-deserved AMVCA recognition places him alongside Nollywood’s finest.

In an emotional statement, Branch expressed gratitude to Austen-Peters, the cast and crew, critics, and his loyal fans worldwide for their unwavering support.

“May that person who believes in you even more than yourself and gives you the platform to change your destiny locate you,” he wrote.

As the AMVCAs approach, all eyes are on Femi Branch. Will he take home the coveted award? Basorun Ga’a is ready!
