Stephanie Linus, Juliet Ibrahim Selected for Zuma International Film Festival 2024 Jury

The Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC), in partnership with the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), has announced the appointment of a 10-member jury for the Zuma International Film Festival (ZUFF) 2024.

This year’s festival, scheduled to take place in Abuja from December 1st to 5th, will see these reputable Nigerian and international filmmakers adjudicating entries in the competitive category.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Monday, November 11, 2024, NFC’s Director of Public Affairs, Brian Etuk, emphasized the importance of the jury’s role in selecting winning entries. According to Etuk, the composition of the jury reflects the prestige and growing influence of ZUFF as one of Africa’s leading international film festivals.

The diverse jury was selected for their contributions to promoting authentic Nigerian and African narratives and their influence on global film production. The jury includes both local and international stakeholders who have been instrumental in advancing inclusive storytelling.

Stephanie Linus Okereke:

Stephanie Linus Okereke: An award-winning actress, filmmaker, and activist, Stephanie Linus was named the Chairperson of the Jury. With lead roles in over 100 films and accolades such as the AMVCA Award for Best Overall Movie in Africa and the AMAA Award for Best Nigerian Film for her impactful work DRY, she brings a wealth of experience to her leadership role.

Juliet Ibrahim

Juliet Ibrahim: A bilingual (French and English) award-winning actress, producer, published author, humanitarian, and director with over 100 movie credits, Juliet Ibrahim is known for her versatility in the African film industry. She is celebrated for pushing creative boundaries with her unique storytelling style and serves as an influential voice advocating for the growth of African cinema. Her diverse skills add depth and insight to the jury panel.

Kenneth Gyang: Renowned for directing This Is Lagos, Mojisola, and Oloture (a Netflix original from Nigeria).

Aisha Halilu Abdullahi: A specialist in docu-dramas and documentaries.

Ishaq Sidi Ishaq: An actor, writer, and producer of films such as Kamilu and Wasila.

Charles Novia: An avant-garde filmmaker, scriptwriter, and producer known for pushing the boundaries of Nollywood cinema.

Hakeem Kae Kazim: An acclaimed Nigerian-British actor , director and producer famous for his roles in the Oscar-nominated Hotel Rwanda, The Librarian, The Triangle amongst others.

Sihle Hlophe: An award-winning South African director with over 15 years of experience in filmmaking.

Ronya Man: Israeli acting coach, producer and creative arts specialist known for her work on Lahira, Omo Ghetto: The Saga and SIN.

Zaiyanu Tanko Waziri: A veteran filmmaker and broadcaster with more than two decades of professional experience.

Dr. Ali Nuhu, NFC’s Managing Director and Chairman of the Festival Organising Committee, expressed congratulations to Stephanie Linus for her appointment as Chairperson. He noted that the jury’s role is critical to ensuring the success of the festival, which has been meticulously planned to highlight Nigeria’s thriving creative industry.

According to Dr. Nuhu, the festival aims to sustain positive narratives around Nigeria’s creative economy, showcasing it as the hub of film production in Africa.

The 14th edition of Zuma International Film Festival, themed “Digital Renaissance: Embracing the Future”, will be held at the Chida Event Centre, Abuja. The event will include film screenings, workshops, and discussions on the future of digital storytelling.
