Adedimeji Lateef Unveils Behind-the-Scenes Photos from His Upcoming Biopic “Lisabi”

Lisabi follows the historical tale of the courageous leader from Igbehin, who rose to prominence in the Egba village of Itoku. He is celebrated for leading the Egba people in their daring battle for independence against the oppressive rule of the Alaafin of Oyo, whose vast empire held much of Yorubaland under its control.

Speaking about his inspiration for the project, Lateef shared, “I felt the need for us to reconnect with our culture and traditions. While there are many books on our history, the essence of these stories is slowly fading in this digital era where people rarely read. I believe movies have a greater appeal, and who better to tell our stories than us?”

Lisabi is executive produced by Adedimeji Lateef, produced by Adebimpe Lateef, and directed by renowned filmmaker Niyi Akinmolayan. The film boasts an impressive cast including Femi Adebayo Salami, Odunlade Adekola, Ibrahim Itele Yekini, Ibrahim Chattah, Jide Awobona, Mr. Macaroni, Mo Bimpe, Eniola Ajao, Liquorose Afije, and Lateef Adedimeji himself.

Set to be released in two parts on Netflix, “Lisabi: The Uprising” premieres on December 27th, followed by “Lisabi: A Legend is Born” in January 2025.

Adedimeji Lateef couldn’t contain his excitement, declaring, “Finally, the long-awaited biopic is here, chronicling the heroic exploits of the great Egba warrior LISABI. After my role in Ayinla, I knew I had to do this to further honour my Egba heritage. This is for the Egba people, the entire Yoruba race, and Black communities worldwide!”
