Renowned Nollywood icon Genevieve Nnaji is making her triumphant comeback to the cinematic stage, five years after her Netflix original “Lionheart” (2018).
This time, she takes the helm as an executive producer, presenting her latest venture, “I Do Not Come To You By Chance.”
The film marks a fascinating collaboration as it is an adaptation of Adaobi Tricia Nwaubani’s acclaimed debut novel of the same title.
Plunging into the treacherous world of Nigerian email scams, this captivating narrative follows the journey of a young man who shoulders the weight of rescuing his family from poverty’s clutches. It delves deep into the lengths he’s willing to traverse for the sake of his loved ones.
The novel garnered prestigious accolades including the 2010 Commonwealth Writers Prize for Best First Book (Africa) and the 2010 Betty Trask First Book Award. It even secured a spot on The Washington Post’s esteemed list of Best Books of the Year.
As an executive producer, Genevieve Nnaji collaborates with Chinny Carter to bring this absorbing story to life. The film adaptation features an ensemble cast, led by the charismatic Blossom Chukwujekwu and introduces the talented newcomer Paul Nnadiekwe. The lineup also includes the seasoned Jennifer Eliogu, Sambasa Nberibe, and Beverly Osu.
“I Do Not Come To You By Chance” takes on a bilingual narrative, artfully blending English and Igbo, further enriching the cultural tapestry of storytelling. The directorial reins are held by the skilled Ishaya Bako, with Femi Awojide serving as the Director of Photography.
