“Plenty of Room in the Sky for Everyone” — Olamide Addresses Wizkid Ranking Debate
Olamide has weighed in on the ongoing conversation surrounding Afrobeats rankings after his recent comment describing Wizkid as the greatest Nigerian Afrobeats artist of all time after Fela sparked reactions across social media.
In a new statement shared online, the YBNL founder clarified that the debate around rankings should not be taken as a competition. According to him, greatness in Afrobeats cannot be diminished by lists, comparisons or personal preferences, and there is enough space for every artist to thrive.
He stated that Burna Boy, Davido and Wizkid are not “narrow-minded” artists who would take offence at fan opinions, adding that their success is rooted in their ability to stay focused despite the noise around them. Olamide also noted that listeners are free to support whoever they choose, as the industry has room for different talents and styles.
The exchange follows renewed public discussions about which artist should be considered the leading figure of modern Afrobeats. Olamide’s response appears aimed at easing tensions and reminding audiences that the genre’s growth depends on collective success rather than rivalry.
Honestly, this whole lengthy 3-way conversation is pretty much whatever. You can't diminish anyone's greatness, whether they're A-list, B-list, or anything else. Feel free to believe what you want or support whoever you choose—there's plenty of room in the sky for everyone.…
