Afrolektra Takes 2025 by Storm as the Standout Music Producer

In Ghana’s fast-evolving music scene, few names have defined the sound of 2025 quite like Afrolektra.

Born Eyram Gbewonyo, the producer and DJ has been instrumental in shaping some of the country’s most successful records this year, with credits on Black Sherif’s Iron Boy, Gyakie’s After Midnight, and Omar Sterling’s VTH 2 — all of which peaked at No. 1 on Apple Music Ghana’s Albums Chart.

Afrolektra’s production style sits at the crossroads of tradition and innovation. His signature sound — a fusion of African percussion, soulful melodies, and electronic dance energy — is redefining what it means to make modern Ghanaian music. From the studio to live sets, his work captures both the authenticity of African rhythm and the pulse of global contemporary music.

Speaking on his collaboration with Gyakie, Afrolektra described their working relationship as natural and creatively aligned. “Gyakie is one of my favourite collaborators. She’s not just a great writer, she’s also a very good producer. She knows what she wants to hear — all her many ideas — and I amplify those, taking them to the next level,” he shared.

His partnership with Omar Sterling on VTH 2 further illustrates his artistic range, having produced six tracks on the project. “Omar Sterling is not just a great rapper and lyricist. He lives whatever he says in his music, from past experiences to his spiritual path. I’m glad to have experienced him in the studio. He’s a teacher, and I’ve learned a lot from his journey, even beyond the music,” Afrolektra noted.

Afrolektra’s path into production started in 2010 when he began experimenting with Fruity Loops and VirtualDJ as a student. His background in marching bands and church choirs provided an early grounding in rhythm and arrangement. By 2015, while still at university, he had transitioned from hobbyist to full-time producer — a decision that would set him on course to become one of Ghana’s most in-demand creatives.

His catalogue now spans an impressive range of collaborations, including Black Sherif’s “Rebel Music,” Gyakie’s “Rent Free,” “Unconditional,” and “I’m Not Taken” ft. Headie One; Omar Sterling’s “Boom Boom” ft. Reggie Osei, O’Kenneth & Jay Bahd; R2Bees’ “Sure Banker” and “Yawa” ft. Sarkodie; Camidoh’s “Brown Skin Girl” ft. Stonebwoy; and Offei’s “I Like” ft. Ayobeatz.

Beyond production, Afrolektra is a commanding presence on stage, with performances at major festivals such as Afrofuture (Afrochella), Accravaganza, Manifestivities, Chale Wote Street Art Festival, Zaama Disco, and iMullar Sound System. His Afrolektra Radio and signature DJ sets continue to attract audiences across Africa, blending classic African grooves with cutting-edge sound design.

In an unexpected twist, Afrolektra also holds a degree in Biomedical Science, a background that mirrors the precision, structure, and discipline evident in his production.

As Ghanaian music continues its global rise, Afrolektra stands at the forefront — a bridge between tradition and innovation. From studio boards to festival stages, his work is not only shaping the sonic identity of 2025 but also redefining the possibilities of what African music can sound like on a world stage.
