Taye Taiwo Inducted into Olympique Marseille’s Club of Legends

Former Super Eagles defender Taye Taiwo has officially joined Olympique Marseille’s prestigious Club of Legends, cementing his legacy at the French football giants.

The recognition took place in the presence of former club forward and advisor Fabrizio Ravanelli, honouring Taiwo’s impressive contributions during his six-year spell at the Stade Vélodrome.

Taiwo, who played for Marseille from 2005 to 2011, made 192 appearances for the club and played a pivotal role in their Ligue 1 triumph during the 2009-2010 season. His tenure also saw him lift multiple domestic trophies, including the Coupe de la Ligue, the Trophée des Champions, and the UEFA Intertoto Cup.

The left-back’s journey to European football began when Marseille signed him from Nigerian side Lobi Stars in January 2005 at just 20 years old. Known for his powerful long-range shots and deadly free kicks, Taiwo became one of Nigeria’s most celebrated attacking full-backs, representing the Super Eagles in multiple Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.

His induction into the Club of Legends reinforces his impact at Marseille and his lasting influence on Nigerian football.
