Raise Empowered, Not Dependent Daughters, Simi Tells Parents
Nigerian singer and songwriter Simi is dropping some real-life gems on the power of financial independence for women.
In a recent video, she encouraged parents to raise daughters who value self-sufficiency and the ability to manage their own financial future.
Simi didn’t hold back when she explained the importance of financial freedom, saying, “Please don’t raise your daughters to think they have to rely on someone to take care of them. Teach them to take care of themselves first.”
She also reminded everyone that while it’s great to be pampered, it’s even better when you can return the favor. “When someone is spoiling you, it shouldn’t be because you can’t spoil yourself. Make sure you’re able to spoil them right back. Let them know you’re standing strong!” Simi added with a smile.
Simi emphasized that financial independence isn’t just about the money—it’s about security and confidence. “There’s peace of mind in knowing you’ve got yourself covered. A woman’s financial strength gives her the protection she needs and the confidence to own her space,” she said.
She urged women to believe in their worth and embrace the fact that they deserve all the good things in life. “Ladies, occupy space!” she added, giving her signature dose of motivation.
Simi was also real about her own journey, admitting that she’s had a lot of support along the way. “I say this from a place of privilege. I grew up with people who believed in me and gave me opportunities. But not every woman gets that,” she shared.
She called on society to step up and help women who don’t have the same access to resources, love, and support. “If you’re in a position to give a deserving woman an opportunity, please do it. Let’s lift each other up,” Simi urged.
