Show Dem Camp Talks 'No Love In Lagos,' Palmwine Festival, and Global Impact on African Music

In a captivating interview with Ebro Darden, Nigerian hip-hop duo Show Dem Camp (SDC) opened up about their latest highlife-infused album, No Love In Lagos, created in collaboration with The Cavemen.

The conversation delved into their artistic journey, cultural influences, and the dynamic music scene in Lagos. Conducted in New York, this insightful dialogue provided a rare glimpse into the minds of Tec and Ghost, the creative forces behind SDC.

Ebro praised SDC’s ability to blend deep cultural themes with vibrant, genre-crossing sounds seamlessly. He described their music as a fusion of hip hop, highlife, jazz, and R&B—often called “Alte” in Nigeria. Their latest project, No Love in Lagos, explores the complexities of urban life and relationships in the bustling city, featuring collaborations with prominent artists like Tems, Burna Boy, and The Cavemen. This album offers a rich blend of African sounds and storytelling that resonates deeply with listeners.

SDC also expressed excitement about bringing its legendary Palmwine Music Festival to New York’s Central Park. This festival, which has grown from its Lagos roots to become a global phenomenon, celebrates a unique blend of music that honours African heritage while embracing modern rhythms. It has connected thousands of fans and artists across the Afrobeats and highlife scenes, solidifying SDC’s influence in the global music landscape.

Reflecting on their musical journey, Tec remarked,

“Each project we release is a reflection of where we are at that point in time. It’s like a time capsule of our evolution.”
