Girl-Child and Women Rights Activist Oluwaseun Ayodeji Osowobi who tested positive for COVID-19 has survived the deadly virus and is now creating awareness by sharing her story of hope and resilience.

At the #CommonwealthDay event in the UK where she was the Flagbearer.

The Executive Director of Stand to End Rape Initiative (STER) was in the UK attending the Commonwealth Day service on March 9 and took ill after returning to Nigeria.

She went on and self-isolated but was later tested and confirmed positive for coronavirus.

Sharing her story on @AyodejiOsowobi she wrote;

Life finds ways of throwing LEMON at me. I’ve struggled with coming forward, but I want to inspire hope and show that anyone could be infected.

I returned to Nigeria from the UK post-Commonwealth event (I totally enjoyed) & fell ill. As a responsible person, I self-isolated.

Days after, I TESTED POSITIVE FOR COVID-19.

Before returning to Nigeria, I had several interviews lined up, was scheduled to start a fantastic consultancy job and was also expecting to sign a contract worth millions. I lost them all as I could not meet up with the deadlines for signing my contract!!! I had no choice but to self-isolate and also inform people I came in close contact with to get tested.

My friend and I kept calling NCDCgov to get tested. We had to persist to get them to eventually test me.
I was not informed of my test result, but around 12am the next day, an ambulance showed up at my house. I woke up from sleep and was crying. I got to isolation center, but no one was there to receive me. I waited in the ambulance for TWO HOURS.

After two hours of waiting, I was taken to my space. I felt lonely, bored & disconnected from the outside world as I was the only one in the female ward. A few days later, another patient joined me. We bonded.

The days after were tough for me. I had no appetite. The nausea, vomit and stooling was unbearable. I’m a blood type A and #COVID19 dealt with me. I was on so many drugs daily but I was vomiting. I fought to stay hydrated and recover. Today, I HAVE FULLY RECOVERED! I AM NOW NEGATIVE!!! #COVID19 is NOT a death sentence. 💜

The nurses at IDH Yaba were fabulous eventually. It was a rocky start, but we built a relationship that was beautiful. They would say a word of prayer for me and even when I was vomiting, they alongside the cleaners will clean it up! These guys deserve accolades for their hardwork. I thank God + the entire team of IDH Yaba for saving my life!
