Media Personality Do2dtun Expresses Concern Over Artists Charging in Dollars for Nigerian Performances

Oladotun Ojuolape Kayode, popularly known as Do2dtun, has voiced his displeasure at demands for foreign currency payment by Nigerian artists.

Despite being rooted in the country’s music scene, some artists now insist on booking fees in United States Dollars, a shift that Do2dtun finds “quite strange and bizarre.”

Do2dtun took to his X account to appeal to Nigerian artists, urging them to reconsider their decision to charge in foreign currency, emphasizing that such a practice is detrimental to the local music industry.

In his post, he remarked, “This Afrobeat we all built together, na Una go use Una hands spoil am. You now charge your own people in dollars. Forget to unlock the togetherness the genre gives you and your people. Quite strange and bizarre.”

The media personality also highlighted a decline in the number of concerts and live music shows held in Nigeria. He elaborated, “You have no idea. Ask why there isn’t so many live shows this year? It started 2 years ago. Now it’s worse. Corporates have canceled their end of the year parties, show promoters can’t pay except you launder money & not expect profit. You can never get your money’s worth.”

Do2dtun went on to advise hypemen and DJs to revisit their rate cards, noting that with artists becoming too expensive to book, many would prefer to invite DJs.

“Hypeman and DJs, please adjust your rate cards. It’s time to cook and clean. Thank you to our wonderful Musicians for being so kind and too expensive to book. We will perform your songs on your behalf.”
