Basketmouth Extends an Olive Branch to AY Makun and Others
In a surprising turn of events, Nigerian comedian Bright Okpocha, popularly known as Basketmouth, has taken to Instagram to offer heartfelt apologies to those he may have offended over the years, including his long-standing rift with fellow comedian AY Makun.
In a video posted on October 2, 2023, Basketmouth expressed his sincere regrets for any past actions or words that may have hurt or offended others. Specifically addressing AY Makun, he sought forgiveness and expressed his own willingness to forgive in return.
,”To my guy AY, I don’t know if my apology is still valid right now, but if it is, please forgive me for whatever I have done or said in the past that affected you in any way. Please forgive me. And I want you to know that I have forgiven you for whatever you did or said knowingly or unknowingly. It’s gone, and I just want us to live in peace and harmony.”
Basketmouth stated
He extended his apologies beyond AY Makun, acknowledging that he might have unknowingly offended others in the entertainment industry and elsewhere. Basketmouth emphasized that he neither accepted nor denied any allegations but genuinely sought forgiveness and reconciliation.
“Now to all the people in the industry and beyond that I have offended over time knowingly or unknowingly, I say this to you right now from the bottom of my heart: I am genuinely sorry. Please forgive me. And to the people who would have accused me of doing things that affected their career in one way or the other, I’m not going to accept or deny these allegations. God knows the truth, but regardless, please forgive me. I beg you from the bottom of my heart,” he added.
This reconciliation initiative comes after a longstanding feud between Basketmouth and AY Makun, which had persisted for over a decade. According to AY, it had initially started over a ₦30,000 dispute, while Basketmouth mentioned issues related to loyalty as the root cause of their discord. With this public apology, it appears both comedians are now open to mending fences and moving forward.
