Davido To Release Timeless Album On 31 March

Nigerian Afrobeats star Davido has announced that his forthcoming fourth studio album Timeless will be released on 31st March on Columbia Records.

The singer broke the news across social media with a video montage mapping the past 11 years of his career, and ending months of silence. His only public appearance prior to the announcement was his performance at the final of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar in December. 

The new collection will be his first studio release since 2020’s A Better Time.

Davido describes the project as “a body of work that goes beyond fashion and trends; it’s an authentic body of work that remains true to my core as an artist, using my music to bring joy to my fans across the world. The songs you hear today will be just as relevant tomorrow, that’s why it’s timeless.”

Ahead of the album’s release, Davido has curated a Spotify playlist of Afrobeats tracks that he also considers timeless. The selection includes hits by his peers Wizkid, Tekno and Mr Eazi, classics from Afrobeats’ golden era with songs by 2Baba and Naeto C, and foundational tracks that have inspired the genre, including Fela Kuti’s ‘Zombie’.

Speaking about the playlist, Spotify’s head of music for Africa, Phiona Okumu, said: “Davido represents the audacity, consistency and huge reach of Afrobeats, and we’re glad to herald his new body of work by joining him in highlighting some of the most enduring contributions by Afrobeats acts to our musical canon over the years.”

A globally recognised icon and ambassador for Afrobeats, Davido is part of a generation of Nigerian artists who have found massive success in the digital era. He boasts multiple international hits including ‘Aye’, ‘If’ and ‘Fall’. Next to a list of solo hits and guest verses, Davido is also among the most prolific crossover artists in Africa.

His list of collaborators includes fellow African stars like Sauti Sol, Focalistic and KiDi as well as big international names like Nicki Minaj, Lil Baby, Young Thug and Nas.
