Renowned Ghanaian model, entrepreneur and cultural advocate, Hamamat Montia has been officially appointed Ghana’s Tourism Ambassador for Shea Butter by the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts.

The appointment recognises her years of dedicated work championing shea butter as both a treasured cultural heritage and a valuable global economic resource, marking a major step in Ghana’s efforts to position indigenous products on the international stage.

A native of Bolgatanga in northern Ghana, Hamamat’s journey began in the world of pageantry before evolving into influential leadership within the shea industry.

She is the founder of the Shea Butter Museum in Accra. The first institution of its kind, created to preserve, document and celebrate the history, traditional knowledge and cultural importance of shea butter across West Africa.

Through her advocacy, she has helped shift global perception of shea butter from a largely uncredited raw material to a proudly Ghanaian cultural export, while spotlighting its critical role in sustaining local economies and empowering millions of women.

In her new role as Ghana’s Global Shea Butter Ambassador, Hamamat will collaborate with government agencies and industry stakeholders to advance sustainable production practices, cultural education and international marketing initiatives that elevate Ghana’s shea heritage.

Her appointment aligns with a broader national vision to amplify indigenous narratives, support women-led enterprises and transform traditional products like shea butter into powerful drivers of tourism, trade and global cultural influence.
