Blok Celebrates A Successful Annual Spring Clean In Collaboration With Pristine Earth Collective

This past Saturday, Blok, in partnership with Pristine Earth Collective, Statistics SA, Crumbs & Cream, Norfolk Deli, and the Bootlegger Coffee Company, held its highly anticipated annual Blok Spring Clean, focusing on restoring Sea Point’s beaches.

The Blok team saw enthusiastic participation from community members including Ward Counsellor Nicola Jowell, media and environmental partners, all joining forces to clear litter and preserve the beauty of the beloved coastline.

Meeting at Broken Bath Beach near the Sea Point Pavilion, participants spent the morning collecting and sorting waste. Thanks to the expert guidance of the Pristine Earth Collective, the gathered materials were handled in an environmentally responsible way, minimising their impact on the ecosystem.

In total, 77 bags of litter were collected. After sorting through the trash, 17 bags of plastic will be sent to the CRDC (Centre for Regenerative Design and Collaboration), which will be converted into an eco-aggregate to create green building bricks and construction products. Some of these bricks will be used in the next Blok development as a symbol of Blok’s commitment to community upliftment and interventions.

“We’re incredibly proud of the Sea Point community and the positive impact we made together,” said Troy Squires, Head of Marketing at Blok. “Sea Point’s promenade and beaches are iconic, and it’s inspiring to see so many people come together to protect and preserve this beautiful public space.”

As a gesture of gratitude, each beach cleaner was treated to a free coffee or ice-cream sandwich, generously provided by Crumbs & Cream, Norfolk Deli and the Bootlegger Coffee Company, making the cleanup effort all the more rewarding.

The event reaffirmed Blok’s ongoing commitment to sustainability, collaboration, and community-driven initiatives, with plans already underway to expand the reach of the Blok Spring Clean in 2025. Blok, along with its conscious collaborators, will continue to inspire positive environmental change across the Sea Point area.
