Damson Idris Leads the Pack as ESSENCE's Sexiest Man of the Moment

British actor Damson Idris has recently been crowned as the inaugural cover star for ESSENCE’s Sexiest Men of the Moment list, gracing the May/June issue.

Known for his role as Franklin Saint in the hit series “Snowfall,” Idris embodies charisma and charm, standing tall at 6’1″ with captivating features that leave a lasting impression.

The article delves into the essence of Idris beyond his on-screen persona, exploring his aspirations for romantic comedies, his approach to maintaining privacy in the digital age, and his thoughts on being recognized as one of ESSENCE’s Sexiest Men of the Moment.

See some excerpts:

About his mum: “My mother’s name is Silifat Abike Idris,” the actor says. “She is my hero, my best friend, my guru. Something she always reminds me about is to be humble, however high I climb.”

On growing up with a single mum: I just have a love for women. My mother is a Black woman, and that love stays with me. I feel protected by Black women. I feel loved by Black women. I feel at home.”

His upbringing in Peckham, South East London: Peckham was amazing, man. It had a great sense of community. Everyone knew everyone. I was probably wearing a lot of Nike tracksuits—you guys say “Nai-key.” I was just kind of dreaming, man. Playing football every day with my friends. I was just like everyone, trying to make it out.”

His admiration for Old Hollywood greats: He has Sidney Poitier, Marlon Brando, Daniel Day-Lewis and Denzel Washington on his Mount Rushmore of actors. He says he learns from their roles, their lives, and their ability to maintain a semblance of peace and privacy while navigating a legendary career.”

His aspirations of being a parent: Oh, man, I’ll be the best dad. It doesn’t matter what age I’ll be, I’ll still be the cool dad. Like, yeah, My dad’s coming to pick me up from school. I’ll just love it, you know? I love kids. Being an uncle is amazing, because I get to take the baby and then give it back—but I can’t wait to be a father and have a big family.”
