UK-based internationally acclaimed Ghanaian gospel sensation, Sonnie Badu has revealed he is heavily inspired by Afrobeats superstars Davido and Burna Boy.

Noted for his popular but evergreen song Baba, the Gospel minister made the shocking revelation when he answered questions about a Spotify Wrapped list he shared on his timeline on Twitter.

The list which comprised artists including Sarkodie, Black Sherif, Burna Boy, Stonebwoy and himself as Top Artists got social media busy and wondering why a minister of the Gospel would rather listen to these artists.

However, speaking in an interview on UTV, Sonnie Badu revealed the shared list was an “innocent error.”

“It was an innocent error I made and I went on to apologize. I saw someone share that list with me in there and I honestly thought it was an end-of-year list with me in there so I simply shared it only to wake up to insults. That’s when I realized that list was not what I thought it was. It was an innocent error,” he said.

Despite the apology, Sonnie Badu believes there isn’t anything wrong with playing music from these artists. According to him, some of them inspire him to want to do greater things.

“My kids listen to them and sometimes I want to listen to what they are doing. Why are they filling the stadiums? What kind of music are they using to drive people? Davido did State Farm in Atlanta Georgia, I want to do it one day. I want to watch what he did. I’m inspired by that guy. I saw Burna Boy. Burna Boy uses a lot of traditional stuff, right? So I like to learn from what they are doing so that I do it in the Gospel space. Some of their songs are good,” he said.

Sonnie Badu is readying for his major concert, Rhythms of Africa which is scheduled for December 9, 2023, at the Grand Arena in Accra, Ghana.
