Elon Musk Completes Acquisition of Twitter…Begins Firing Top Executives
Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, has completed the acquisition of Twitter for $44 billion US.
In his newly-acquired role as Twitter’s new owner, Elon Musk fired top executives whom he had accused of misleading him.
While limiting censorship, the CEO of electric car maker Tesla has stated he intends to combat spam bots on Twitter, make publicly available the algorithms determining how content is presented to its users, and prevent the platform from becoming an echo chamber for hate and division.
Despite this, Musk has not provided details of how he intends to accomplish his goals and the succession plan for the company. Twitter’s approximately 7,500 employees are concerned about their futures after he announced that he intends to cut jobs.
A source familiar with the matter said Musk terminated Twitter’s Chief Executive Parag Agrawal, Chief Financial Officer Ned Segal, and chief legal affairs and policy officer Vijaya Gadde. According to him, Twitter investors and him were misled about the number of fake accounts on the platform.
Sources said Agrawal and Segal were escorted out of Twitter’s San Francisco headquarters after the deal closed.
