Nollywood Veteran Actor Lari Williams Has Died at the Age of 81
Chief Lari Williams, a veteran Nollywood actor, has died at the age of 81 following a long illness.
Williams, who had roles in hit TV soap operas such as Village Headmaster, Ripples, and Mirror in the Sun, passed away peacefully on Sunday at his home in Ikom, Cross River State.
His family members revealed this to Punch in a statement
A poet, playwright, and actor, Lari Williams earned a prestigious national award; Member of the Order of the Federal Republic in 2008.
He served as the first president of the Actors’ Guild of Nigeria for over five decades.
Lari Williams attended CMS Grammar School, Lagos, before he travelled to England to acquire more knowledge. In addition to studying journalism at the London School of Journalism, he also studied English at Morley College and drama at Mountview Theatre School and Stratford E15 Acting School in England to become a professional actor.
As well as being an actor, he also had the credentials of being a theatre educator, having taught in the Department of Theatre Arts at three Nigerian universities, namely the University of Lagos, Lagos State University, and the University of Calabar.
