Rape Allegation: “Stop Social Media Trial”- D’banj to Detractors
D’banj has jumped on Instagram to reiterate that he isn’t guilty of the rape allegation levelled against him by Seyitan Babatayo.
The singer who just clocked 40 has been in an ongoing tussle with Seyitan @seyitannn_ whose friend Benjamin Ese, in a Twitter thread in early June shared that Seyitan was raped after an ‘All White Rendezvous Party’ in Eko Atlantic, December 2018 in Glee Hotel, the same hotel D’Banj had lodged his staff members.
According to her, she woke up to find D’Banj in her room, and when she asked what he was doing there, he asked her “if she was a baby” before sexually assaulting her.
D’bank debunked the allegation outrightly:
Today is exactly 1 week after my birthday and this will be the only time I will address the recent false allegations and lies from the pit of hell. I have chosen to do so because the incident is a slap to my marriage and my beautiful wife, my entire family and those who believe in me. I did not want to dignify the slurs with a response but it appears my silence has empowered my accusers to think i have been scared into the shadows so I would like to state that This Accusation are false and ludicrous and Have been handed over to my Legal Team, while the Nigerian Police is Investigating the Criminal aspect of it.
It’s unfortunate that this is coming a few weeks before the second anniversary of my late son Daniel And this well timed falsehood has reopened the painful scars of my deep loss. To my fans and loved ones , thanks for the support, your prayers and your positive comments . The truth will always prevail . God bless us all. ???
Shortly after his post, Seyitan was allegedly arrested, detained and was denied access to friends, family, and legal representation.
Activists on social media went ballistic and demanded her release.
After her release, she was allegedly held by D’banj’s team who forced her to recant her allegations on Twitter and even promote his new song on her handle to throw people off the scent.:
As a fallout of these incidents, the hashtag; #SilenceDbanj was created and a lot of people appealed to the brands that have endorsed him including Heritage Bank who made him an ambassador on his 40th birthday.
Some of his friends who were as confused as we all are, also took to social media to ask questions.
In a report by Punch, a petition against D’banj was written by Seyitan’s lawyer and the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu has ordered a probe into the rape allegation levelled against D’banj by Seyitan Babatayo.
